This Sogetsu Ikebana arrangement celebrates one of human being’s most important festivities which is one’s birthday (Tanjōbi).

And the most important significance of birthdays is to celebrate the annual milestone on the journey to longevity (Chōju).

The purpose of using dried materials is to give the composition a longer display life than using fresh materials while maintaining their beautiful natural design.

The red-colored elements symbolizes happiness and strength while the gold-colored elements symbolizes the sun and God’s power & mercy in the Japanese culture.

Neny is among the first members of Sunshine Place taking Writing, Porcelain Painting & Ikebana classes. She has published some of her essays, memoirs & short stories in three books published in Sunshine Place, “Finding the Sun”, “Reflections in Light and Shadows” and “Bridges of Memory.” She has likewise participated in exhibits of Ikebana Sogetsu Manila.

Like my husband say I am a woman of leisure. A wife, mother of three and a grandmother of 5.

Linda Atayde is an Executive Director for education programs of SM Foundation. She completed Master in Management at Asia Pacific College. For Arch. Rivera, Ikebana Sogetsu is her other way of expressing her designs in another art form. “Other than design and construction of buildings, in Ikebana, another form of construction is expressed using vases, plants, dried materials or even unconventional materials. Sogetsu Ikebana encourages creativity and emphasizes the idea that Ikebana can be done by anyone, anywhere, with any material.
