A WRITING WORKSHOP
A WRITING WORKSHOP
There are memories that need more than just narration. Language as a medium, more than transmitting meaning, also transmits experiences. In this workshop, we will explore the power of language and how this power can further amplify the memories we record—through the use of poetry.
Session 1 (June 16) Memoir Poetry: Philosophizing Language I
In this session, we explore the different dimensions of language as a medium. We discuss how these dimensions affect us as writers, readers, listeners, and speakers in relation to our own experiences and memories.
Session 2 (June 23) Memoir Poetry: Philosophizing Language II
This further unpacks the previous session with the use of exercises.
Session 3 (June 30) Memoir Poetry: Memory through Villanelle I
In this session, we explore the power of the villanelle format. Aside from understanding the strict flow of the villanelle, we will also follow a process that makes the villanelle easy and conducive to reflecting on our experiences and memories.
Session 4 (July 7) Memoir Poetry: Memory through Villanelle II
This further unpacks the previous session with the use of exercises and feedback.
Session 5 (July 14) Memoir Poetry: Memory through Imagist Poetry I
In this session, we explore the power of imagist poetry. Aside from understanding the core principles of imagist poetry, we will also follow a process that makes imagist poetry easy and conducive to reflecting on our experiences and memories.
Session 6 (July 21) Memoir Poetry: Memory through Imagist Poetry II
This further unpacks the previous session with the use of exercises.
